10 Facts and Secrets About Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It! Street Party at Disney’s Magic Kingdom

The Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It! Street Party is one of the most happening places in the Magic Kingdom.  The party is highly energized and supercharged with fun.  Parents and kids alike will both be dancing in the streets.  Here are 10 really fun facts and secrets about the street party:

10 – This isn’t your typical “parade”.

Many guests think of this as a parade since there are various floats that come rolling down Main Street, U.S.A., but it isn’t really a parade at all.  The floats all stop in a circle around the hub and continue with lots of songs and dancing to get the crowd pumped up and let you sing and dance along with a grouping of some of your favorite characters.  After the party is over, the floats go back down Main Street, U.S.A. the same way they came in.

9 – The party happens a few times a day.

Unlike the parades that occur at various points in the day and you only get one chance to see them, the Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It! Street Party is done a bit differently.  There are usually a few performances throughout the day, so you have multiple opportunities to fit it within your schedule.  The kids will love it and the music will have them dancing their hearts out.

8 – A wide variety of characters from various movies.

During the party, you will get to see a grouping of characters that are from different Disney and Pixar movies and cartoons.  Characters that you might get to see include: Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Woody (Toy Story), Jessie (Toy Story), Chip & Dale, Judy Hopps (Zootopia), Nick Wilde (Zootopia), Baloo (Jungle Book & the Disney cartoon TaleSpin), King Louie (Jungle Book & the Disney cartoon TaleSpin) and Phineas and Ferb.  The characters may change or include other characters at times, but these are the main characters that are usually part of the party (at least currently), which is a nice grouping of fun characters.  Many of which you may not find elsewhere in the Magic Kingdom to see and meet.

7 – The characters change out every so often.

There have been numerous characters that appear at the party and trade out with other characters, so don’t be surprised if you see some of them cycle out.  The parade has included characters like Donald Duck, the Genie (Aladdin), Mr. Incredible (The Incredibles), Frozone (The Incredibles), Stitch (Lilo & Stitch), Goofy, The Mad Hatter (Alice and Wonderland), Lumiere (Beauty and the Beast), Sebastian (The Little Mermaid) and more!  Many of these we definitely miss since you don’t get the opportunity to see them very often, but there is a very good chance that we could see them again or that some of the current party goers will end up on this list to make room for other characters.  It does keep the party interesting to have different characters in attendance.

6 – The unique floats.

There are 5 different floats that make up the party that drive out and circle the hub.  The floats are shaped like gifts or presents with bright colors and patterns, complete with bows on top.  What’s a party without presents?  The characters ride on the floats with a couple of the other performers.  There are also TV screens on each float as well.  The first float has the section where the main master of ceremonies stands to greet all of the guests and keep the party upbeat and moving.

5 – The party received a new name and other changes.

The parade started out as the Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It! Street Party.  It opened in February of 2009 and ran through October of 2014.  It received a few changes, including changes to the soundtrack, characters and some changes to costumes and switched over in October of 2014 to the Move It! Shake It! Dance and Play It! Street Party.  It has remained under this name and song lineup since then.

4 – Those aren’t just gift tags.

You know those screens that we mentioned before that look like gift tags on the present boxes on each float?  Well they do have an awesome purpose during the show.  The screens are actually used to provide the lyrics to the songs so that you can sing along if you don’t know the words.  Not only that, during the finale they actually show pictures of guests that the guests have taken themselves!

3 – Be a part of the floats.

Guests can take photos during the party and share the photos online.  So have your camera out and take selfies with the characters and performers.    You can then post them on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #MoveItShakeItPics.  When you do this the photos might be displayed on those giant “gift tag” screens on each of the floats!  This makes the party much more interactive and is a way to get your and your family on the “big screen” during this lively, fun event!

2 – You choose the song!

At the very end of the show, all of the guests will be asked to cheer for which song they want to hear as the floats are exiting the area.  The host will give three options and the one that gets the most cheers is the song choice that is selected.  This can make the show and experience different than the last time you might have seen it, and that variance can be a lot of fun.  The party will then exit back the way it came back down Main Street, U.S.A.

Kristin

Hi! I’m Kristin, and I am a wife and mother of 2 young boys (ages 5 and 2). I first fell in love with Disney when my mom took me when I was a child. After that I proceeded to go to WDW for my senior trip with my friends, and I completed a year in the Disney College Program (working in merchandise at Mickey’s of Hollywood at Disney’s Hollywood Studios). I shared my love of Disney with my now husband and sucked him in. We vacationed at Walt Disney World 2-3 times per year. We decided that what maked more sense was just moving to Orlando so that we could live the Disney life and be here for all of our favorite events and seasons every year. That is exactly what we did! Now we are at the parks a couple times a week and go for most events and major holidays. We can’t get enough and get to experience Disney in a whole different way.
