10 Tips & Tricks for Your Anniversary Trip at Disney World

Mickey and Minnie, Donald and Daisy, Beauty and the Beast… just about everywhere you turn at Disney – love is in the air. So, what better way to celebrate an anniversary than to spend it at Walt Disney World?! This article especially hits home for us as we regularly spend our anniversaries at Walt Disney World and wouldn’t have it any other way. So, this one is for those love birds out there – ten tips and tricks for your anniversary trip at Walt Disney World.

1 – Just The Two of Us

We tend to think anniversaries must be a huge, lavish event. While we highly recommend portions of the anniversary are celebrated in a big way, keep in mind that an anniversary is all about celebrating the two of you! It’s tempting to invite friends and family along, but at least for a part of your anniversary trip, make it only about you two. Find a babysitter for a week and get to planning a magical trip together without the crew tagging along.

2 – Pick the Right Accommodations

Selecting which Disney Resort to stay at should be a decision made together. If you are the outdoorsy type, maybe you would prefer a cabin at Disney’s Fort Wilderness. Check out Old Key West Resort if you are a casual beach-vibe couple. And if you are looking for a grand week in elegance, you’ll want to consider the Grand Floridian Resort. If the accommodation of your choice is not available or is too expensive for the length of stay you’d like, think about resort hopping. As a couple, this is super easy and a fun way to check out other resorts!

3 – Plan for Sleeping in and Late Nights

When we go to Disney with family or friends, we tend to wake up super early and be readily available when the park opens. This sometimes results in us leaving early from the parks. Instead, as a couple, we like to sleep in a little, head to the park when we have rested, and then plan for a late night out and about! If you get some rest in the morning, you can stroll through the park or ride the night away into the super early morning hours.

4 – Enjoy a Spa Day

Did you know Disney has some spectacular spa options at several of its Disney Resorts? Spa guests are welcome to take advantage of services even if they are not staying at the select resort. Couples’ massages are a relaxing item to add to the agenda! Better yet, if you are staying at select spa resorts, they may even offer in-room couples massages, so you don’t even have to go anywhere. Sounds wonderful just talking about it!

5 – Purchase Memory Maker

If at all possible, we recommend the purchase of the PhotoPass program called Memory Maker. With Memory Maker, guests are able to digitally download and keep any and ALL photos taken of them at Disney World. This includes special dining event photos, attraction photos, character meet and greets, and the photos you’ll be snapping in front of some of Disney’s most iconic locations. This is the perfect way to forget about trying to squeeze everything into a selfie, but trust that the special moments of your anniversary trip are being captured on film.

6 – The Meal of a Lifetime

At least one-night while on your anniversary vacation, we would recommend dining at one of Disney’s signature dining restaurants. Yes, they are a little more financially to add to the budget, but it is totally worth it for the celebration meal of a lifetime! Restaurants such as Victoria and Albert’s, Le Cellier Steakhouse, and California Grill make our top picks for extraordinary dining. If you want to save the budget but still have a phenomenal experience, look for restaurants such as Rose and Crown Pub which has a great dinner menu with an excellent view of Epcot fireworks.

7 – Overflowing Desserts

Our favorite part of celebrating just about any event (especially our anniversary) is delectable desserts to top off the evening. One incredible option is to purchase an anniversary cake and deliver it to your Disney World restaurant. Cakes and desserts come in all sorts of shapes, sizes, and price points. Surprise your loved one with a special dessert like no other! Another experience that you’ll remember forever is a Dessert Party. There are a few Dessert Party options, such as three different Magic Kingdom Dessert Parties. This is a perfect way to experience an evening of tasty treats and spectacular views!

8 – Try Some Recreational Fun

It’s easy to forget about Disney World’s recreational activities that take place outside of the parks. For example, Disney offers a plethora of water activities, such as boat rentals, canoes, or even a fireworks cruise for two! Bike rentals are also fun to explore the resorts with your sweetie, but if you aren’t in the mood to bike – check out the romantic Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides offered at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort and Fort Wilderness Resort. Snuggle up at one of the resort campfires offered nightly along with the Movie Under the Stars.  You can even play a round of miniature golf at one of Disney’s courses. There are so many fun activities, and you’re sure to find something adventurous that will appeal to both of you.

9 – Splurge on Special Ticketed Events

If you are fortunate enough to visit Disney World while one of their Special Ticketed Events is taking place, it might be worth spending the extra money to attend an event. For example, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party offers a spooktacular time for a couple seeking a haunted evening at Magic Kingdom. We also highly recommend Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, as it is super romantic to stroll down Main Street U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom under the snow. There is almost always something special taking place at Disney World, no matter when you plan to visit, from tours to shows to exciting parties! Do a little research, as it might be worth splurging on a special ticketed event.

10 – Pick Up Your Anniversary Buttons

Last on the list, but certainly, the first thing to do upon arrival is pick up free Anniversary buttons from just about any guest relations location at your resort or theme parks. Be sure to wear this button/pin everywhere you go; you might receive special surprises along the way. If nothing else, at least you’ll have folks wishing you a Happy Anniversary!

We hope your anniversary trip to Disney World is as magical, fun, and romantic as you can dream it up to be!
