8 Things We Miss the Most After Our Disney World Vacation

It’s a sad moment, but one that must take place. Your Disney World vacation is over. Time to head back home… sigh. Do you ever notice how quickly you forget how different things are back in the real world? Here are eight things we find ourselves missing the most after returning home from our Disney vacation.

1 – Have a Magical Day?

Cast Members smiling, large white mickey hands waving, folks telling you to have a magical day, and even the ladies being greeted as princesses… Disney magic! So, after a stay at Disney, it’s rather strange that no one at the grocery store is smiling gleefully at you and telling you to have a magical day! If you get a “bye” from the cashier, it’s like winning the lottery. While we feel like we live in a friendly location, it’s definitely no Disney!

2 – Turkey Legs, Dole Whips, Mickey’s Ice Cream…

This list could go on and on! Not only do we miss the fantastic treats we can get at parks and resorts, but the delicious food that is prepared and placed right in front of us for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if we so choose! Even our regular favorite home restaurants seem to lack that magical taste. And why is no one asking us to be their guests like Lumiere would?

3 – Resort Life

With the pool, arcade, bike path, lounge, tennis court, activity center, and so much more at our disposal while at Disney, it’s hard to head back home to a typical neighborhood! Surely, if we sit around long enough, someone will bring us a tasty beverage. The resort life most definitely spoils us, but oh, how sweet it is to enjoy while on vacation.

4 – No Need to Hold On Tight

We miss all of the Disney rides and attractions! You can spin in your office chair as much as you’d like, but it’s just not the same as riding the Tea Cups. Sitting on the couch isn’t the same as riding in a Doom Buggy. And taking the elevator isn’t as thrilling as Tower of Terror – or so we hope it’s not!

5 – Furry Characters

It’s a sad thing when you don’t have Mickey, Minnie, or their pals to hug at your leisure! Plus, no one gets nearly as excited to see you as the characters at the parks. If a furry creature did approach us for a hug outside of Disney, we’d likely run away and call the cops!

6 – Mousekeeping = Me

Mousekeeping (also known as housekeeping) does an excellent job on resort rooms. The cleanliness, the prompt response when needed, and the little Mickey ear shapes made out of towels are something we definitely miss when we leave our Disney vacation. We no longer have someone to turn to; instead, we have to clean up our mess. Where is Mary Poppins and her cleaning magic?

7 – Cheesy Clothes and Accessories Are No Longer Cool

Matching shirts, Mickey ears of all sorts, and Goofy hats with floppy ears… you wear these around the parks at Disney, and you are smiled upon! Unfortunately, somehow, back at home, these items are likely frowned upon and simply uncool. Sigh – it’s time to put the crazy accessories away for the next Disney trip.

8 – Flushing and Washing

Okay, we are slightly embarrassed to share this one, but tell us we aren’t the only ones?! Have you ever returned from a long Disney vacation and, after doing your business, stood up from the toilet and expected it to flush on its’ own? Then, you head to the sink and put your hands under the faucet like the water will come out without you pushing the handle up. We take the simple but wonderfully convenient things at the Disney parks for granted until we get home and realize just how spoiled we are!

In the words of our daughter, she misses EVERYTHING when returning home from a Disney vacation. How about you? We’d love to hear what you miss the most!

We have had a long time love affair with Disney. We love the magic and the memories we've made at Walt Disney World! We follow all things Disney and have great experiences with being Annual Passholders, Disney Vacation Club Members, and RunDisney participants. From lodging to dining to Genie+ we have a spreadsheet for every occasion. Usually there isn’t a day that passes without some discussion of the master plan of our next trip to the happiest place on earth. Most people think we’re normal – until they travel to Disney with us.
