Our Favorite Things: 10 Things We Love Doing at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Disney’s Hollywood Studios has come a long way in its first three decades. The Walt Disney World Resort theme park marked its 30th anniversary on May 1, 2019. As part of a historic multiyear transformation, Disney’s Hollywood Studios has unveiled a years-long string of smash hits that would make any movie studio jealous, inviting guests inside some of their favorite stories. Countdown with us through our top ten favorite things we love doing at Hollywood Studios!

10 – Olaf and Frozen Sing-Along Celebration

You might be saying, really Frozen… please “let it go” already! Yes, bad pun but trust us when we say meeting Olaf at Hollywood Studios is especially heartwarming with his warm hugs. Then continue your Frozen fun by heading over to the Frozen Sing-Along Celebration attraction. This 30-minute show includes the retelling of the adventures found in the film Frozen with lyrics to sing along to some of the film’s most popular songs. Plus – Anna, Elsa and Kristoff might even make a special appearance!

9 – See Mickey & Minnie in Red Carpet Dreams

We love this new meet-and-greet location where Mickey and Minnie get to show off their stuff on the red carpet. Mickey is actually Sorcerer Mickey at this location, which has to be our personal favorite, Mickey! Don’t forget about the sweet and beautiful Minnie Mouse, all dolled up, ready to dazzle on the red carpet. This is a great photo op location, so get those cameras ready.

Sci-Fi Dine in Theater at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

8 – Eat at Themed Dining

Themed dining at Hollywood Studios is arguably some of the best at Disney World. 50’s Prime Time Café holds the bar high with its’ 50’s theme and fun “Mama”, “Uncle” and “Auntie” serving up fantastic food with a slice of humor. Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant is another awesome place to dine, as you get to sit in a specially designed car booth, watch old shows with aliens and monsters on the huge screen, and order great American food and desserts! Let’s not forget about the character dining option, Hollywood & Vine, where the Disney Jr. characters visit during breakfast and lunch, and Minnie and Friends visit during dinner. Finally, you can dine in Andy’s Room at Roundup Rodeo BBQ in Toy Story Land!

7 – Watch Beauty and the Beast – Live on Stage

A “tale as old as time” but undoubtedly one of our favorite things we love doing at Hollywood Studios time and time again. Watch Beauty and the Beast come to life with live stage performances, as if Broadway has come to Hollywood Studios! It’s a beautiful show and makes us tear up with each visit. This is one that simply never gets old for us.

6 –  Be Amazed by Fantasmic!

Fantasmic is a spectacular show for all ages and a must-do on our Hollywood Studios list. Watch Mickey dream of a battle between good and evil. See numerous characters, from our favorites to the evil villains, trying to convince Mickey that his dreams can’t come true. It’s an outdoor extravaganza of water displays, music, and fireworks. A true celebration of what Disney is all about… making dreams come true!

5 – Join the Star Wars Craze

We surely must mention what Hollywood Studios is all about these days…STAR WARS! Hollywood Studios is bursting with Star Wars attractions, entertainment, dining, and merchandise around every corner. Head into the Star Wars Launch Bay for some great merchandise and a chance to meet Darth Vader and Chewbacca! Catch the Path of the Jedi film to learn about what might be coming for Star Wars, then head to Star Tours for a thrilling ride through the galaxy. As you exit Star Tours, be sure to stop and make your very own lightsaber. And all of this is outside of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge (#2)! It seems like there is something new every day that involves Star Wars at Hollywood Studios. You know you can’t resist the force!

4 – Play in Andy’s Backyard

You are a toy! The new Toy Story Land, inspired by Pixar Animation Studios’ Toy Story films, turns guests of all ages into “honorary toys” and allows them to “play big” in the whimsical world of a child’s imagination. In Toy Story Land, Woody, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear, Slinky Dog, Green Army Men, and other fun-loving Toy Story characters come to life in the outdoor setting of Andy’s backyard. A world of toys surrounds guests: giant building blocks, Tinkertoys, yo-yos, board-game pieces, dominoes, Scrabble tiles, and even a giant roller coaster set. The entire land encourages the best playtime ever. It really is a very cool-themed land. The land is very immersive, and you’ll actually feel like you are in Andy’s backyard. There is so much to see and do in this new land. The land has been a huge hit with guests! Don’t miss it!

3 – Go on a Picnic with Mickey and Minnie

In this bold and innovative family adventure, guests go through the movie screen inside the park’s re-creation of the Chinese Theatre and into the whimsical world of Disney Television Animation’s Emmy Award-winning “Mickey Mouse” cartoon shorts. There they discover why “mouse rules apply” and anything can – and does – happen! With an original “Mickey Mouse” story by Walt Disney Imagineering featuring the new song “Nothing Can Stop Us Now,” Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a celebration of Disney heritage and a showcase for state-of-the-art storytelling and attraction design. This attraction has quickly become a fan favorite, and once you’ll ride it, you’ll understand why!

2 – Immerse Ourselves in a Galaxy Far Far Away

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is an expansive and immersive experience that transports guests to the distant planet of Batuu, where they can live out their own Star Wars adventures inside a 14-acre land. Guests join a climactic battle between the Resistance and the First Order in Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance and take the controls of the most famous ship in the galaxy in Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. They build their own droid or craft a lightsaber, discover exotic food and drink, and explore Black Spire Outpost in search of rare antiquities. We could spend hours exploring this amazing land–and have!

1 – Ride Disney’s Most Thrilling & Best Attractions

We feel Hollywood Studios holds some of Disney World’s most thrilling and best attractions – specifically Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, Toy Story Mania, and Slinky Dog Dash. These attractions have guests running into the park as soon as it opens to beat the waits and maybe ride a few times if possible. We love that they are unique and completely exhilarating in different ways. Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance sets a new standard for what a Disney theme park experience can be, as guests become heroes of the Resistance in a climactic battle with the First Order. In one of the most immersive, ambitious, and technologically advanced attractions ever created for a Disney park, guests launch into space aboard a transport shuttle, only to be captured by a Star Destroyer and pursued by Supreme Leader Kylo Ren as they frantically search for a way to escape the clutches of the First Order. The Tower of Terror provides guests with a chill and a stomach-lifting plunge down an elevator. The Rock ‘n’ Roller Coast launches riders into loops, twists, and turns by traveling a whopping 60 miles per hour with incredible G-Force. And while Toy Story Mania isn’t necessarily considered a “thrill” attraction, it is one of the most popular attractions at Disney World because, well… it’s AWESOME. 4D effects allow guests to ride along as they blast targets. It’s rather addictive and an attraction we could do time and time again! Finally, you don’t want to miss Disney’s latest family coaster, Slinky Dog Dash. The coaster is well-themed and a whole lot of fun for guests of any age!

We have had a long time love affair with Disney. We love the magic and the memories we've made at Walt Disney World! We follow all things Disney and have great experiences with being Annual Passholders, Disney Vacation Club Members, and RunDisney participants. From lodging to dining to Genie+ we have a spreadsheet for every occasion. Usually there isn’t a day that passes without some discussion of the master plan of our next trip to the happiest place on earth. Most people think we’re normal – until they travel to Disney with us.
