NEWS: Disney Announces Exciting Updates Coming to Star Tours-The Adventures Continues

It’s no secret we love Star Wars, and we get excited anytime we get to travel to the worlds of this amazing universe. That’s one of the reasons we always been fans of Star Tours in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. We love the fact that with multiple variations of the ride, you never know where you’ll be headed or which movie you’ll be headed into. So we’re thrilled to hear that with the release of the latest installment of the Star Wars saga, new adventures are once again coming to Star Tours. Check out the details below.

Here are all the details from Disney cast member Tom Fitzgerald:

Since the launch of Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, we’ve had a great time partnering with Lucasfilm and Industrial Light & Magic to update the attraction with new and exciting destinations. Passengers who board the Starspeeder 1000 never know where in the galaxy their pilot C-3PO and navigator R2-D2 will take them. We’ve added flights to Jakku, Crait, and even Batuu!  Along the way, we’ve encountered many of our favorite characters from the Skywalker saga.

I know that many of you are as excited as I am about the December 20th film launch of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Today I’m equally excited to announce that on the same December date, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue will be adding new destinations inspired by the latest episode of the Star Wars saga … at Disneyland Resort, Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disney Resort.

In the trailers for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, you caught glimpses of the ocean moon Kef Bir. All I can say at this point is that Starspeeders will be heading there soon!

We’ll be sharing more details in the future, but for now, I just wanted to say how super-excited we are that Star Tours – The Adventures Continue is continuing to live up to its name. As C-3PO would say, “Here we go again!”

by Chad and Cindy Nykamp

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened on August 29, 2019 with one of its major attractions, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, set to open later. Rather than wait for Rise of the Resistance to finish being completed, Disney opened Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in two phases. Phase two will bring the opening of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, an attraction that promises to be an incredible experience for guests. Here’s what we know so far about this highly anticipated attraction.

1 – Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is the newest land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland. It is the largest and most technologically advanced single-themed land expansion ever in a Disney park. The new land builds off decades of collaboration between Walt Disney Imagineering and Lucasfilm Ltd., a global leader in film, television and digital entertainment production, including the Star Wars franchise. The collaboration shows through brilliantly throughout the land. The design screams Star Wars and it’s very convincing.

2 – Batuu and Black Spire Outpost

Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is on the planet of Batuu, a far-flung destination along the galaxy’s Outer Rim, on the frontier of Wild Space – the uncharted region beyond all known star systems. The planet is home to Black Spire Outpost, an infamous port for smugglers, traders, and adventurers wishing to avoid any unnecessary … entanglements with the First Order.

When guests arrive at Black Spire Outpost, they come across aliens, droids and other inhabitants of this planet as they search for rare and unique goods, discover unusual food and drink, or join a crew seeking adventures. Along the way, guests may encounter some familiar faces, including Rey, Chewbacca or even Supreme Leader Kylo Ren and his Stormtroopers. It’s in this context that the second anchor in the land, Rise of the Resistance, attraction makes its home.

3 – Rise of the Resistance

Opening December 5, 2019, at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Florida and January 17, 2020, at Disneyland Park in California, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will be one of the most ambitious, advanced, and immersive experiences ever undertaken by Walt Disney Imagineering. The innovative new attraction will take guests aboard a full-size transport shuttle before they are captured by a Star Destroyer and wind up in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance. The harrowing adventure will blur the lines between fantasy and reality on a scale never seen before in a Disney attraction.

4 – Fight with the Resistance

Guests will join the Resistance and depart from Batuu in a transport ship to meet General Leia Organa at a secret rendezvous point. However, on your way to the hidden base, guests are intercepted and taken prisoner by the First Order as their ship is drawn into the hangar bay of a Star Destroyer. The action then ramps up as guests seek to escape the clutches of Kylo Ren and the First Order.

5 – Your Favorite Star Wars Characters

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will bring guests face to face with some of their favorite Star Wars characters, including Resistance heroes Rey, Poe and Finn, as well as Kylo Ren and General Hux of the First Order.

6 – A Very Large Attraction

Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance is one of the largest attractions Disney has ever created. Its massive show building is a world unto itself, housing two full-sized AT-AT walkers and a Star Destroyer hangar bay – complete with a TIE fighter and a garrison of Stormtroopers – plus more thrills and surprises. Cindy had a chance to walk in the Destroyer hanger bay in August and it was AMAZING. The group she was with all cheered with excitement. We can’t wait for this attraction to open!

7 – Multiple Ride Systems

Walt Disney Imagineering will combine multiple ride systems to tell the story of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. In one sequence, a new simulator experience will give the sensation to guests they are falling from space to crash land on Batuu. Also, during a portion of the experience, guests will race through a Star Destroyer in a trackless ride vehicle featuring an onboard droid that reacts to its surroundings.

8 – Height Requirement

The height requirement for Star War: Rise of the Resistance is 40″ or taller which puts it in the same category as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, Splash Mountain, Test Track, Soarin’, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and Dinosaur!

9 – More to Come

As we get closer to the opening date of Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, we expect more details to be released from Disney. We’ll also be at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for the grand opening event on December 5, 2019. Chad & Cindy Nykamp

After years of multiple Walt Disney World vacations, Cindy and Chad's dream of living in Orlando came true in 2010. After friends and family made them their go-to-people for Walt Disney World advice, Cindy and Chad launched DisneyLists.com in August 2015 to share their knowledge and love of Disney. Chad and Cindy have been Disney World Annual Passholders for years, DVC members, together have raced more than 70 runDisney races, and particularly love cruising on the Disney Cruise Line. Chad and Cindy also regularly represent DisneyLists.com at Walt Disney World media events. While attending these events, they get an insiders view of all the new things that have come to Walt Disney World. These experiences have helped them gain knowledge and expertise they happily pass on to their followers. They still can't believe how lucky they are to have such an amazing opportunity and will continue to share Disney with anyone who will listen!
