Follow Along on Our Very Merrytime Cruise on the Disney Dream

The time has come, and we’re about to embark on a Very Merrytime Cruise on the Disney Dream! Interested in the Disney Cruise Line? Want to learn more about a themed cruise? Then come sail away with us and follow along during another Disney Lists cruise week! Learn more about our upcoming trip below!

1 – Cruising

We, Chad and Cindy, love to cruise, and we are so excited for our first Very Merrrytime cruise on the Disney Dream. Our two youngest will also be joining us on this cruise; their first Disney cruise. As teenagers, they are excited to share their experiences as well. Many people think that a Disney Cruise is only for families with young children. But, the Disney Cruise Line is a fantastic vacation for all ages!

We’ve been busy getting ready for our holiday cruise and recently shared what we’re packing. Click here for some of the extra items we’re bringing along for our Very Merrytime Cruise!

2 – Disney Cruise Line

The Disney Cruise Line launched in 1998. Since its inception, it has established itself as a leader in the cruise industry, providing a setting where families can reconnect, adults can recharge, and children can experience all Disney has to offer. The Disney fleet includes four ships: Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, and Disney Fantasy. Itineraries include locations such as the Caribbean, Bahamas, Alaska, and Europe. The homeport is Port Canaveral, Florida, making a combined Disney World and Disney Cruise vacation a convenient option for many families.

Here are some fun facts and firsts for the Disney Cruise Line:

  • At 1,115 feet, the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy are longer than the Eiffel Tower is tall (986 feet).
  • Disney was granted special permission by the U.S. Coast Guard to paint its lifeboats yellow – rather than the traditional regulation color of orange – to preserve the Mickey Mouse color palette of red, yellow, and black.
  • Disney Cruise Line was the first cruise line to present a fireworks display at sea.

The future is bright for the Disney Cruise Line, with new ships scheduled for delivery in 2021, 2022, and 2023. The name of the highly anticipated fifth Disney Cruise Line ship, Disney Wish, was recently announced along with the ship’s featured stern characters – Rapunzel and her feisty sidekick Pascal. The Disney Wish is scheduled for delivery in late 2021 and will set sail in January 2022. All three new ships will be powered by liquefied natural gas and, at approximately 144,000 gross tons and 1,250 guest staterooms, be slightly larger than the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy. A new private island, Lighthouse Point, is also now in development!

3 – Disney Dream

Disney Dream was the third ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, joining Disney Magic (maiden voyage in 1998) and Disney Wonder (maiden voyage in 1999), and followed by the Disney Fantasy (maiden voyage in 2012). The Disney Dream features Sorcerer Mickey on the stern. Every Disney Cruise Line ship has an atrium lobby statue celebrating a classic Disney character. Admiral Donald is striking a pose on the Disney Dream, and we can’t wait to take some photos with him!

Another Disney Dream highlight is the Star Wars: Millennium Falcon in Disney’s Oceaneer Club. It is one of the most detailed youth spaces ever designed for a Disney ship. It features more than 1,000 LED lights, four animated props—including R2-D2 and Luke Skywalker’s training remote—and dozens of unique sound effects. Interactive buttons, levers, and controls allow children to trigger special detours through the galaxy, such as the Death Star trench run sequence from the original 1987 Star Tours attraction at Disneyland. If only we were kids and could play there! We will be checking it out during the Disney’s Oceaneer Club open house!

As this is our first time on the Disney Dream, we’ll be exploring and taking it all in. We’ll also be enjoying an Art of the Theme Show Tour, where we’ll learn about small details of the ships’ designs and learn all about the ship from cast members!

4 – Very Merrytime Cruise

Disney Cruise Line offers several themed cruises throughout the year. We’re so excited that our Disney Dream cruise is a Very Merrytime Cruise. Starting early November, Disney Cruise Line adds sparkle to each ship during Very Merrytime Cruiseswith traditional “turkey day” fanfare, Christmas feasts, “snow flurries,” and more. We’ll be experiencing a special tree lighting show, Santa’s Winter Wonderland Ball, listen to Dickens-inspired carolers, enjoy family holiday activities and crafts, and a special holiday edition of the cheerful farewell celebration. We’ll be taking part in all of the holiday activities and can’t wait to share it with you.

5 – Castaway Cay

On Wednesday, November 20, we will be at Disney’s Castaway Cay, a 1,000-acre private island with turquoise waters, powdery white sand beaches and swaying palm trees that is exclusive to Disney Cruise Line guests. With an authentic island barbecue and plenty of snorkeling and water sports, Castaway Cay provides a day of adventure, relaxation, and quality time with the family. We can’t wait to explore the island with our kids.

We’re particularly excited to experience Castaway Cay with the holiday theming. We’ll experience “snow flurries,” a decked-out Christmas tree, Disney character meet-and-greets, and holiday island music. Plus, we hear that the island’s tram is decorated to resemble a reindeer, complete with antlers and a tail. We can’t wait to check that out!

Chad & Cindy Nykamp

After years of multiple Walt Disney World vacations, Cindy and Chad's dream of living in Orlando came true in 2010. After friends and family made them their go-to-people for Walt Disney World advice, Cindy and Chad launched DisneyLists.com in August 2015 to share their knowledge and love of Disney. Chad and Cindy have been Disney World Annual Passholders for years, DVC members, together have raced more than 70 runDisney races, and particularly love cruising on the Disney Cruise Line. Chad and Cindy also regularly represent DisneyLists.com at Walt Disney World media events. While attending these events, they get an insiders view of all the new things that have come to Walt Disney World. These experiences have helped them gain knowledge and expertise they happily pass on to their followers. They still can't believe how lucky they are to have such an amazing opportunity and will continue to share Disney with anyone who will listen!
