2020 Holiday Offerings at Disney World Resorts

Celebration of the holiday season at Walt Disney World isn’t just limited to the parks. The holiday offerings at Walt Disney World extend to its many resorts! At the resorts, you’ll find beautiful decorations and tasty holiday treats. Get all the details below.

Here are all the details from Disney Cast Member Jeremy Schoolfield:

It’s the most wonderful time of year to visit Walt Disney World Resort, as the holiday season is in full swing across our Resort hotels. Whether you’re staying with us on vacation or just stopping by for the day, these fantastic locales are merry and bright with yuletide décor that enhances the stories they tell.

From iconic Christmas trees to festive flourishes of garland adorning the front entrances and more, our resorts have decked their halls in celebration of the season for a fun holiday atmosphere. For instance, you can’t miss the massive and magnificent tree outside Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Or you can gaze in wonder at the tree stretching into the upper reaches of the soaring lobby at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Traditional tunes and holiday melodies fill the air in the classic setting of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, as a talented pianist performs live music most afternoons and evenings in the lobby. And while you’re visiting one of these magical places, you may just spot a favorite Disney pal taking in the sights, as well.

The tinsel and trimmings make our resorts a wonderful way to check some names off your holiday shopping list, too. You’ll find great gift ideas for family and friends, especially anyone looking for an ornament from their favorite home away from home at The Most Magical Place on Earth. Resort gift shops offer exclusive pieces you can only find here!

When it’s time to take a break from your merry-making, treat your taste buds with jolly specialties across our resorts. Holiday flavors of eggnog, peppermint, pumpkin, chocolate and more dance across the dessert menus at all our resorts throughout the season. May I suggest any of the following tasty morsels:

The triple-chocolate Happy Holidays Grand Cake Pop from Gasparilla Island Grill at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

A Christmas Candy Drop from Le Petit Café at Disney’s Riviera Resort, filled with milk chocolate mousse, chocolate sponge, hazelnut custard and cherry reduction.

Cookie Trees featuring stacks of vanilla cookies decorated with royal icing, mini-pearls and snow sugar, along with a delightful miniature Gingerbread Carousel with hidden Mickeys and a sugar replica of this year’s gingerbread pin from Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort.

And speaking of sweets, our pastry chefs cooked up some holiday cheer this year for gingerbread fans with a lineup of delicious cookies, kits and more. Highlights include a classic Gingerbread Mickey available at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort’s BoardWalk Bakery and the Contemporary Gingerbread House Kit from the Contempo Café at Disney’s Contemporary Resort.

You’ll find all sorts of other special gingerbread items available at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resort, Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, and Disney’s BoardWalk Resort. If you aren’t staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, a dining reservation may be required to park at the resort. Depending on the location’s capacity, guests without reservations may be redirected to park nearby and walk, or take Walt Disney World Transportation to the resort.

by Cindy E. Nykamp

Holiday fun returns to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, bringing unique seasonal décor and a flurry of festive flotillas with favorite Disney characters sailing down the Discovery River to a jolly holiday soundtrack. We recently enjoyed a fun day enjoying the holiday offerings at the park. Learn more about what you’ll find this holiday season at Disney’s Animal Kingdom below.

1 – Park Hours

During the phased reopening of Walt Disney World, the theme parks have been operating with fewer hours than normal. However, during the holiday season, Disney has offered more hours in the park, especially in the evening hours. The park hours vary by day and will be shorter during the week and longer during the weekend. For example, in December, weekday hours are generally 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, but they are 8:00 am – 7:00 pm on the weekend. Be sure to check the park hours in your My Disney Experience App since Disney has been adjusting hours often due to the level of people visiting. We highly recommend visiting on a weekend so you can enjoy the park in the evening hours.

2 – Crowd Levels This Holiday Season

Disney has stated publicly that the parks’ capacity was capped at 25% when the parks reopened and that they were well below that number. Over the fall season, more and more guests have been returning to the parks. In fact, Disney just confirmed on November 12, 2020, that they recently increased park capacity to 35%. While it is undoubtedly busier now than it was this summer, it’s important to remember that because of the capacity limits, the parks are still less busy than a typical visit. Overall crowd levels and therefore wait times for attractions at Disney’s Animal Kingdom are not too bad. You can expect wait times over an hour for the more popular attractions such as Avatar Flight of Passage and Expedition Everest. Most other attractions have wait times between 30 minutes to an hour. Expect to wait for attractions, but there is time to get everything done, and it is much less crowded than it would be for this time of year.

3 – Park Decorations

Every park has their own unique holiday decorations and Disney’s Animal Kingdom has some of the best! Outside the park entrance, you’ll find Animal Kingdom’s Christmas Tree, which offers a great backdrop for some photos! Also outside the park entrance is a holiday-themed backdrop with a Disney PhotoPass photographer. Inside the park, you’ll find many of the holiday decorations that debuted last year. The parks is really beautifully decorated.

4 – Holiday Themed Character Cavalcades

Since character greetings are not happening during the phased reopening, you’ll be able to spot the characters on the Discovery River throughout the day. Here are the cavalcade you’ll be able to enjoy:

  • Mickey, Minnie, and Pluto cruise along the Discovery River in holiday outfits!
  • Santa makes the trek to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park to spread the joyous spirit of the season from his very own flotilla as he sails down the Discovery River.
  • “Donald’s Dino-Bash” takes its seasonal celebration to the waters of Discovery River, with Donald Duck and pals waving to everyone as they pass.
  • Chip ‘n’ Dale and Goofy jingle through the jungle, bringing their own style of holiday flair to the river on their own flotilla.
  • The Discovery Island Drummers cruise along, entertaining guests on the shore with an energetic holiday beat.
  • Non-Holiday “Discovery River Character Cruise” – Throughout the day, guests can see Timon and Rafiki or Pocahontas with Meeko, who set sail on the parks’ waterways.

5 – Holiday Themed Treats

Here is a rundown on the holiday treats you’ll find at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. More treats may be available so keep an eye out!

6 – Holiday Novelty Items

One item that we have only seen at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is the bottle topper called the “Toppermint.” This item (see below) is available at various food carts for $6.50 (drink not included). It also lights up!
