When it comes to flipping the calendar to a new year, like many people we’re thrilled to be turning the page on the dumpster fire that was 2020. In addition to not being 2020, the upcoming year promises to be a great one at Walt Disney World with many new attractions, events and more that we are really looking forward to! While we expect this list to grow through the year as things like holiday parties and fireworks return, this is what is currently officially confirmed. Learn more about what’s coming below.
1 – Park Hopping!
Guests who purchase a ticket or annual pass with Park Hopper benefits are now able to visit more than one park per day (with some new modifications). Guests should be aware that the monorail from the Transportation and Ticket Center to EPCOT is still not running. Disney is offering bus transportation for guests wishing to visit the other parks. Learn more about modified park hopping at the link below.
2 – The 2021 Taste of EPCOT International Festival of the Arts
Beginning January 8 and running through February 22, guests are invited to experience an expansive collection of visual, performance, and culinary arts throughout the park. Disney Cast Member Jeremy Schoolfield shares more details below:
Ready for a fresh start in 2021? Then grab a paintbrush and indulge your artistic side (and your palate … and maybe your palette) with an inspiring visit to the Taste of EPCOT International Festival of the Arts, running January 8 – February 22, 2021, at Walt Disney World Resort.
This global celebration mixes visual, culinary, and performing arts from around the world into an entertaining blend that’s fun for the entire family. More than 100 Disney and visiting artists will display their work, and you can show off your own talents by participating in interactive experiences such as a larger-than-life paint-by-number mural or learning to draw some of your favorite Disney characters. You can also step into famous works of art, thanks to artful photo ops.
You’ll also discover dishes to feast on with delicious Disney twists and art-inspired menus. And, of course, no visit is complete without finding the perfect piece of artwork or Festival merchandise to bring home.
New in 2021 – Voices of Liberty will take centerstage at America Gardens Theatre with a brand-new showcase – The Disney Songbook. From “When You Wish Upon a Star” to “Let It Go,” the ensemble will perform Disney songs and celebrate the artistry of Disney composers and lyricists.
Cindy will be at EPCOT on the opening day of the festival! Be sure to follow us on Instagram for photos and video of this year’s festival!
3 – The 2021 Taste of EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival
Beginning March 3, guests will find fresh cuisine, creative gardens, and unforgettable topiaries as part of this annual festival. Disney Cast Member Jeremy Schoolfield shares more details below:
With garden-fresh cuisines, creative gardens, and unforgettable topiaries, this vibrant festival combines the freshest flowers and flavors from around the world.
Guests will be delighted to hear their favorite Character topiaries are coming back – from Mickey, Donald and friends, to Remy, Anna & Elsa, Lady & the Tramp, Figment and more. Our Disney Horticulture team is busy planting, pruning and planning now for the kaleidoscope of bright blooms and floating gardens scattered throughout EPCOT, with each one making a perfect backdrop for family photos.
With more than 20 delectable stops, World Showcase will play host to the festival’s Outdoor Kitchens and other food & beverage locations, offering a smorgasbord of flavors and beverages.
Gardeners of all ages will be invited to participate in Spike’s Pollen Nation Exploration – a springtime scavenger hunt starring Spike, the buzzzz-iest honeybee at Walt Disney World. And, guests will “bee” on the lookout for festival-specific merchandise throughout the park.
Taste of EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival will run through July 5 and is available with valid admission and a park reservation for the same date. Remember to check for Disney Resort package and hotel offers for your travel dates!
4 – Soak up the Sun at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park
After remaining closed for all of 2020 due to the pandemic, this wintry-themed water park is planning to reopen on March 7, 2021. The water park will celebrate its 25th season in splashy style.
5 – More Walt Disney World Resorts to Reopen
Following an unprecedented four-month closure of the entire Walt Disney World resort, select areas of Disney World slowly began to reopen in July. While the parks have been open with limited capacity for several months, many of the Disney World hotels have remained closed. Disney has announced three more resort hotels will open in the first half of 2021.
Due largely to lower capacity limits in the parks and lower demand for hotel rooms, Disney has kept many of its hotels closed during the phased reopening. As crowd levels slowly creep up, hotels have begun to come back online slowly. Three more hotels will be reopening in the first half of 2021 as Disney World expects guests to start returning to the parks in more significant numbers likely connected to the rollout of the Coronavirus vaccine.
Disney announced dates for the next three hotels scheduled to reopen. Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort will reopen on March 22, 2021. All-Star Movies was previously scheduled to reopen on February 9, 2021. All-Start Movies’ reopening is welcome news as rooms at value resorts have been limited and hard to come by. Disney’s Beach Club Resort will follow with a May 30, 2021 reopening date. Please note, the Beach Club DVC villas are currently open. Finally, Wilderness Lodge (one of our personal favorites) will reopen on June 6, 2022.
A reimagined Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is also scheduled to reopen in summer 2021!
6 – Indulge in Sweet Treats at Disney Springs
Guests visiting the shopping, dining, and entertainment district of Walt Disney World have plenty of new options to satisfy their sweet spots, including the newly opened Gideon’s Bakehouse, along with the forthcoming M&M’S store and Everglazed Donuts & Cold Brew.
7 – Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure
Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, the new family-friendly attraction coming to the France pavilion in EPCOT, will debut in 2021. Learn more about this new attraction at the link below.
8 – Cirque du Soleil’s “Drawn to Life”
Disney has confirmed that the new Cirque du Soleil show “Drawn to Life,” coming to Disney Springs, will open in 2021. The show is a collaboration between Cirque du Soleil, Walt Disney Animation Studios, and Walt Disney Imagineering. Learn more about the show at the link below.
9 – Harmonious Coming to EPCOT
D23, the Disney fan club, confirmed on their “Every Upcoming Disney Movie, TV Show, Disney Parks Attraction…” article that Harmonious, one of the largest nighttime spectaculars ever created, will open in 2021! “Harmonious” will be one of the largest nighttime spectaculars ever created for a Disney park. It will celebrate the way Disney music inspires people the world over, carrying them away harmoniously on a stream of familiar songs reinterpreted by a culturally diverse group of artists from around the globe. “Harmonious” will feature massive floating set pieces, custom-built LED panels, choreographed moving fountains, lights, pyrotechnics, lasers, and more.
10 – 50th Anniversary Celebration of Walt Disney World
On October 1, 2021, Walt Disney World will celebrate 50 years of making magic! While Disney has been mum on updated celebration details, we know that no matter what, it will be a fantastic time to be in the park and celebrate Magic Kingdom and Walt Disney World.
