TRAVEL LOG: Day 4-Sea Day – Very Merrytime Cruise on the Disney Dream

Day four of our Very Merrytime Cruise was our day at sea and the last full day of our cruise. Chad and I love sea days, and they are usually our favorite days during cruises. We just love looking out and seeing nothing but the ocean. It’s also a day when you really get to enjoy the ship and its offerings. Learn more about the last full day of our cruise below.

1 – Coffee at Cove Café

While drinks like soda and coffee are included with your cruise fare, specialty coffee drinks can hit the spot and be a nice treat. Chad enjoyed one of his favorite coffee drinks at Cove Café, located in the adults-only area on Deck 11. With a warm, comfortable design, Cove Café is a peaceful retreat where adults can sit back, breathe in the aroma of freshly brewed java, sip a gourmet coffee, read a magazine or book, and simply relax. He really enjoyed his time at the café and plans to spend more time there on a future cruise!

2 – Brunch at Palo

One of the things we had been looking forward to all cruise, was our brunch at Palo. Palo is one of the restaurants reserved exclusively for adults. Named after the colorful poles that line the canals of Venice, Palo offers a superlative dining experience in a sophisticated atmosphere. At this elegant restaurant, guests are invited to indulge in a menu of delectable modern Italian cuisine, classic reserve wines, and superior service. We’ve never had a disappointing meal at Palo, and this cruise continued this streak!

In addition to romantic dinners, Palo offers an adult-only Champagne brunch on sea days and select port days. The brunch features Palo’s signature pizzas, made-to-order entrées, seafood, a selection of international cheeses, fresh bread and pastries, desserts, champagne, and mimosas. We enjoyed everything we ordered. The food and service were phenomenal. While there is an additional charge for dinner and brunch, plus the cost of alcoholic beverages, we highly recommend dining at Palo. For $50 per adult, you are treated to superior fine-dining experience, and it’s totally worth the cost. Do note reservations are required for all Palo dining experiences, and we recommend making those as soon as the option opens up in your account. Take a look at some of the menu items below (click on any photo to enlarge).

3 – Spend Time Packing Most of Your Things

On the last full day of your cruise, you’ll need to spend some time packing. You’ll be given luggage tags for your luggage if you plan to use Luggage Assistance, where you put your bags out in the hall by 10:00 p.m. The crew will pick up the bags and place them in a temporary hold, and then the next morning, the bags will be at the port in customs. The color-coded luggage tags with Disney characters let you know when you can leave the ship and where you will pick up your luggage.

Just like when arriving on the ship, you’ll want to have a bag or carry-on luggage for the items you want to keep with you, such as your toiletries, electronics, valuables, and clothing for the next day. DO NOT pack your Key to the World card or passport (or birth certificate and state-issued ID if sailing without a passport). You will need these items to exit the ship and clear customs!

4 – Enjoy Your Last Afternoon on the Ship!

The last afternoon you are on the ship is a great time to enjoy the ship and all of its offerings. Maybe you want to ride the AquaDuck one more time or enjoy the pool deck. Or play trivia with your family at the D Lounge. Perhaps the kids want to play in the Oceaneer Club while the adults enjoy a spa treatment at Senses. There are so many options for guests to enjoy. We’ll be covering more about all of the fun things you can do on the Disney Dream, so be on the lookout for those articles!

5 – Go Shopping!

The last afternoon is also the perfect time to go shopping! Mickey’s Mainsail and Sea Treasures are two stores that have exclusive Disney Cruise Line merchandise. Mickey’s Mainsail has a great selection of merchandise, and it’s where you’ll find the Very Merrytime items. We couldn’t resist and got the mug, the trading pin, and this year’s t-shirt. Sea Treasures has clothing for adults and other great items as well. I may have added another Disney Cruise Line t-shirt and a sweatshirt to my collection. If you are a Disney Visa cardholder, you’ll receive a 10% discount. I had my card as my card on file, which was noted on the account, so I did not have to have the card with me to receive the discount. The stores are usually open until 11:00 pm on the last day. They will not be open on the last morning of your cruise, so get that last-minute merchandise on your last full day!

6 – Dinner at Animator’s Palate

The last restaurant that we enjoyed during our cruise was Animator’s Palate. For our dinner, we enjoyed some “Undersea Magic,” where the restaurant is transformed into a shimmering undersea world, and guests enjoy views of a coral reef environment. Enter Crush, the sea turtle from the Disney•Pixar film “Finding Nemo” and most-excellent ambassador of the oceans and seas. The animated character swims from window to window, “working the room,” engaging guests in real-time conversation about his life and world. Crush spoke to us during our dinner, and the experience is always a lot of fun! You don’t want to miss this night at Animator’s Palate!

7 – “Beauty and the Beast” Live State Show

Our final Broadway-style show was a showstopper. “Beauty and the Beast,” a musical production inspired by Disney’s live-action adaptation of the animated classic, is one of my favorite Disney Cruise Line productions. The show expands upon the most imaginative elements of the live-action and classic films to delight Disney Cruise Line guests aboard the Disney Dream. “Beauty and the Beast” brings the timeless fable to life like never before, featuring a style of theater that interlaces classic storytelling elements with cutting-edge technology. An innovative take on the story transforms renowned songs into spectacular numbers, and lavish costumes and puppetry bring a fresh perspective to beloved characters. Don’t miss this show!

8 – Sea Ya Real Soon!

One final offering that you don’t want to miss is the “Sea Ya Real Soon” show in the lobby atrium. This show is a great way to say goodbye to your favorite Disney characters. The show starts with introductions, followed by about fifteen minutes of the characters greeting guests for one last time. Then, there is a short farewell song and celebration led by Mickey Mouse. The characters say goodbye, and it’s a great way to end the final day of the cruise.

9 – Enjoy a Quiet Ship

One of my favorite things to do, even though I’m usually very tired, is walk around the ship close to midnight on the last evening. I love being able to get some last-minute photos without anyone around and just take in the beauty and design of the ship. If you want a chance to experience the ship in a very quiet state, then walk around the ship late at night!

Chad & Cindy Nykamp

After years of multiple Walt Disney World vacations, Cindy and Chad's dream of living in Orlando came true in 2010. After friends and family made them their go-to-people for Walt Disney World advice, Cindy and Chad launched DisneyLists.com in August 2015 to share their knowledge and love of Disney. Chad and Cindy have been Disney World Annual Passholders for years, DVC members, together have raced more than 70 runDisney races, and particularly love cruising on the Disney Cruise Line. Chad and Cindy also regularly represent DisneyLists.com at Walt Disney World media events. While attending these events, they get an insiders view of all the new things that have come to Walt Disney World. These experiences have helped them gain knowledge and expertise they happily pass on to their followers. They still can't believe how lucky they are to have such an amazing opportunity and will continue to share Disney with anyone who will listen!
